WARMINSTER were unable to restart their Dorset & Wilts One South with a victory in Dorset.
With a tough set of games coming up January, the Amber and Blues were looking to get themselves off to a positive start but Blandford opened the scoring with two unconverted tries.
Having hardly touched the ball for the first 10 minutes Warminster’s cause in a struggling scrum wasn’t helped when prop Ben Birbeck had to leave the field due to injury.
The amber blues lineout was functioning well though and after a number of Blandford penalties at the breakdown, Warminster kicked themselves into the corner and a solid catch allowed the ball to go out to the backs where centre Rob Bell hit the line at pace and charged over, Jason Sprangle adding the conversion.
The game was then moved to an adjacent pitch after a Blandford player suffered a broken leg, but when it restarted, Warminster lost impetus and Blandford added two more tries.
Another home score arrived after half time, but the visitors hit back when wing Dan Harris scuttled over.
Two more tries increased the hosts’ advantage, but Warminster refused to give up and scored a second try from Bell – now operating at flanker But they lost James Rowbotham to a shoulder injury and Blandford captalised with two more scores before Luke Windsor grabbed a battling try bonus point for the visitors.
