TROWBRIDGE captain Tom Weaver says that he’s been given plenty of encouragement that his side can have a successful season next summer.

Trowbridge were unable to break into the Wiltshire Division promotion battle this season but victory over relegated Nationwide House tomorrow should see Weaver’s men secure a fourth-placed finish in the table after a positive second half of the campaign.

The Trowbridge skipper admits that his team were looking to bounce back to the Glos/Wilts Division at the first attempt but is hoping that the County Ground side have grown from their experiences over the summer.

“Our aim at the start of the season was to try and get promotion but when we knew that wasn’t going to happen, it gave me the opportunity to try and develop some of our younger players,” said Weaver.

“A lot of guys have done well for us and when we brought back a few of the older heads, that hasn’t just improved us on the pitch but it’s brought us together in the bar and in the clubhouse too.

“I think that there’s plenty to look forward to next season and I can’t wait for that to come around now.”

Last weekend, Trowbridge were unable to put a dent in Burbage & Easton Royal’s title ambitions as they were beaten by 48 runs in their final home game of the season.

Trowbridge put Burbage in to bat first after winning the toss and George Reed took 2-20 while Oliver Weaver claimed 2-32, but the visitors’ Michael Papps hit 91 as the hosts posted 209-7.

Trowbridge’s first three wickets fell for just eight runs and despite Wesley Fernando hitting 57 and Macca Brown adding 35, the hosts were skittled for just 161 in the 46th over.

Meanwhile, Winsley suffered their fifth defeat in a row as they were thrashed by 159 runs at home to third-placed Marlborough.

Charlie Holton’s side won the toss and put the visitors in to bat first but Peter Day (51), Ben Head (40) and Tom Norris (38) all found their range as Marlborough posted 245-8.

Winsley’s run chase never got off the ground as they were put under the cosh by Ed Rothwell, who took 4-24, and Head (3-17).

Brendan Nasser hit 21 as the hosts were all out for 86.
