A STIRRING foursomes fightback narrowly failed to prevent Wiltshire from slipping to a second inter county matchplay defeat at South West Week at Royal North Devon yesterday.
Wiltshire, behind 6-2 to Cornwall after the opening morning singles, won three out of the four foursomes contests to lose out 7.5-6.5 overall at the end of day four.
Only Ben Stow and High Post's Corey Sheppard managed victories in the singles as Cornwall took command.
But Ali James (Cumberwell Park) and Garry Slade (Bowood) started the fightback with a 4&3 victory over Tom Fox and Adam Curtis.
Sheppard and Broome Manor's Tom Law lost 3&2, but Henry Pallas (Hamptworth) and Luke Gorman (Bowood) beat Steve Chapman and Ian Veale byt the same score and Yoshio Takeuchi (Broome Manor) and Simon Futcher (Marlborough) won 2&1 against Richard Jasper and Josh Greenaway.
Wiltshire, who have won one of their opening three matchplay contests, were taking on Devon in their penultimate match today.
