BRADFORD on Avon schoolgirl Becca Tamin has tumbled into the national finals of the English Schools' trampoline championships at the first attempt.
Becca, a year seven pupil at St Laurence School, will compete in the under 13s novice event at the Temple Park Leisure Centre in Newcastle on February 17.
She qualified for the finals by winning the Southern zonal event in Alton, Hampshire, beating 40 girls to the top prize.
"I'm really excited about going to Newcastle because I've never been there before," said Becca.
"I'm going to travel up with my mum and dad on the Friday and stay in a hotel in the city.
"There will be lots of talented people there so I'm just going to try my best."
Becca and her fellow competitors were on tenterhooks as they waited for the results of the zonal finals to be announced.
The 12-year-old former gymnast said she did not expect to win the gold.
"At the South West championships there was a computer screen so everyone knew how well they were doing," she said.
"This time we had no idea, so I was shocked when they called my name out as the winner."
Becca had to do a set routine and a voluntary routine, during which she performed a pike front somersault for the first time in competition.
"It's a difficult move which I've been practising with my coach at the Evolution club. It took me a few weeks to get it right," she said.
