WILTSHIRE tasted sweet revenge on Sunday with victory over arch-rivals Devon in the ICC regional championship.

The Moonrakers won 9-6 at the Christie Miller Leisure Centre to compensate for the 8-7 defeat they suffered in Devon a fortnight ago.

The victory consolidates Wiltshire's position in the middle of the Division One D table, with three rounds of matches still to play.

Ben Caldwell got proceedings off to the best possible start for Wiltshire with a straight sets victory over Dan Corby in the top men's singles match.

Veronique Manook won her top women's singles rubber to keep the home side in control.

Wiltshire won five of the eight level doubles to take a commanding 7-5 lead into the concluding mixed doubles event.

Nicky Robertson and Julie Russell were unbeaten in the women's doubles, while Manook teamed up with Heather McCune to beat the Devon duo of Claire Hannam and Laura Pitts.

In the men's doubles, both Wiltshire pairs beat Devon's Dan Corby and Darren Peterson.

Justin Andrews and McCune were convincing 21-18, 21-13 winners in the top mixed doubles rubber to seal the victory for Wiltshire.

Sean Locke and Russell also triumphed in straight sets, but Caldwell and Manook were edged out by Corby and Pitts in the third and final contest.

Wiltshire are next in action away to Jersey on February 18, the only team they have yet to play in this year's competition.

That match is followed by a difficult trip to league leaders Hampshire on March 4, when Wiltshire will be looking to improve on the 14-1 thrashing they received in November.

It will be a tough ask, with Hampshire having won all four of their matches so far this season, conceding just 11 rubbers in the process.
