GARY Banks marked his Calne comeback with a goal on Saturday, but it wasn't enough to inspire the Lilywhites to a first league victory of 2007.

Banks, who returned to Bremhill View two weeks ago after a brief spell with First Division outfit Biddestone, fired his side in front with a clever toe-poke finish after 30 minutes.

But a second half strike from midfielder Marcus Maggs gave visitors Brislington a deserved point and left Banks with mixed feelings at the final whistle.

He said: "Obviously it was nice to get a goal on my first game back, but it would have been much better if we'd won.

"We should be beating teams like Brislington and if we'd taken all our chances we would have killed them off.

"I had another chance in the first half which I could have done better with, and maybe I should have held the ball up a bit better, so it wasn't perfect by any means.

"But overall I thought I played reasonably well. It was good to get 90 minutes under my belt after so long without a game."

The Lilywhites had not played since the 1-0 defeat to rivals Corsham Town on Boxing Day and could have been forgiven any rustiness in this mid-table Premier Division clash.

The home side started well and soon turned their territorial advantage into a one goal lead.

Ben Moore slipped a perfectly weighted pass through to Banks, who nipped between two defenders and prodded the ball past Nick Yeo in the Brislington goal.

Calne held the lead until just after the hour mark, when Maggs escaped his marker to fire the visitors level from close range.

Yeo made fine saves from Glenn Armstrong and James Lye, while at the other end, Calne stopper Steve Allison was in equally impressive form with the gloves.

Lilywhites' assistant Simon Hillier, who is in temporary charge at Bremhill View while boss Robbie Lardner is away on holiday, said he was satisfied with Saturday's point.

Hillier said: "We came into the match on a run of four consecutive defeats, and we hadn't played for a month, so it was important to take something from the game.

"I thought Gary Banks was excellent. He deserved a goal for his work rate alone and it was a breath of fresh air to have him back in the changing room.

"It was a great start for Gary in his second spell with the club."
