DAVE George savaged his players after Bradford were thumped by arch-rivals Trowbridge in the Dorset and Wilts Vase.

The Broom Ground coach was seething with his side's lacklustre display as Bradford capitulated under an avalanche of pressure from their visitors.

High-flying Trowbridge scored eight tries in total to give George a hangover which lasted for several days.

He said: "That performance was inexcusable. If you can't get up for a match against your rivals when can you get up for one?

"I know we were missing a few players but that doesn't stop the ones who did play from tackling.

"I'm not even from round here, but I think this meant more to me than some of the players."

George complimented Trowbridge on their finishing but slammed his defence for making it too easy for them.

He said: "Some of their support play in the first half was superb, but they got in behind us too easily.

"There's not a lot I can say about some of our tackling. I was very upset with the attitude of the players.

"Some of our more experienced heads like Dan Tozer and Tom Monks put in a lot of effort, but there can be no excuses for the rest of them."

The impressive Alex Hill kicked Trowbridge into a three point lead before Jack Hanham added a try inside the first five minutes.

Ashley Chalk crashed over for a second score midway through the half, which was converted by Hill, beforeBradford hit back with a penalty from scrum -half Will Turner.

Trowbridge ran in three further tries before the break from blindside flanker James Lawes, Hill and inside centre Ali Lund. Hill was unable to add the extras in blustery conditions.

After a rocket from coach George at half-time, Bradford came out blazing in the second period.

Tozer, who had switched to scrum half following an injury to Turner, released Monks with a clever kick and he dived over for a welcome five points.

However, the hosts did not threaten again until Trowbridge scrum-half Hanham was sent to the sin bin for holding on in the tackle.

The visitors survived the period with 14 men and rallied to score three more tries in the closing stages.

Stand-in hooker Dave Martin, substitute Sam Edwards and debutant colt Tobias Stevenson wrapped up a convincing win.

Hill safely deposited two more conversions to leaveTrowbridge one point shy of a deserved half century.

Trowbridge will now play Bridport at home in thequarter finalon February 10.

Skipper Nick Lawes was impressed with the way his players kept their focus against a team from a lower division.

He said: "I was always confident we would win the match, but we still had to be up for it.

"After beating Oldfield the week before we were expected to win this match. We weren't brilliant but if you had offered me 49 points at the start I would have taken it."

Trowbridge host North Dorset in the Southern Counties South tomorrow, while Bradford will look to bounce back with victory at Wootton Bassett 2nds in Dorset and Wilts One.
