THE Lavington silver fish only match fished at Merritts Lake on Sunday produced reasonable sport.

Tom Ince, of Trowbridge, won with a roach and skimmer catch weighing 11lb 2oz, taken on pole-fished casters. Ken Marsh, of Devizes, was second with a roach and skimmer catch weighing 8lb 10oz, taken on pole-fished red maggots.

He was followed by Richard Whitmarsh, of Trowbridge, with a roach and skimmer catch weighing 6lb 12oz, taken on pole-fished red maggots.

Other placings: 4 Paul Marsh, Devizes, 6lb 8oz; 5 Nick Merry, Trowbridge, 5lb 14oz; 6 Nick Stowford, Trowbridge, 5lb.

Team honours for Karaoke Night

THE fourth round of the Commercial House Winter League was fished on the Kennet and Avon Canal at Diggers.

Karaoke Nights took team honours in A division with 31 points, with BAC taking top spot in B division with 30.

Tony Goodland, of Karaoke Nights, took top honours on a day of good weights with a mixed catch of roach and skimmers weighing 13lb 8oz, taken on whip-fished punched bread. Runner-up was Bath matchman Chris Ollis, fishing for Crown Road Electrical, with another roach and skimmer catch weighing 11lb 7oz 8dm, taken on pole-fished casters.

He was followed by Glen Bailey, of Bendix, with a mixed catch weighing 10lb 12oz.

Other placings: 4. Andy Floyd, Power Systems UK, 10lb 9oz; 5 Mike Kent, Karaoke Nights, 9lb 4oz; 6 Chris Derek, Bathampton Avon Aquatics, 9lb 8oz.

Will wins at Viaduct Fishery

THE Carps AC Open match at Viaduct Fishery produced some fine sport. Top spot went to in-form Will Bonnie, of Sensas Blackmore Vale MG, with an all-carp catch weighing 118lb 11oz, taken alternating with long and short pole fished sweetcorn.

Mark Preston, of Team Sillybait, was second with a carp catch weighing 90lb 7oz, taken on pole-fished sweetcorn.

Frome matchman Dave Stockton, of Haines Angling, was third with a carp catch weighing 58lb 7oz, with Josh Garrett, of Maver Veals, fourth with a carp catch weighing 52lb 1oz. The silver fish prize went to Paul Garrett, of Team Sillybait, with a tench, perch and skimmer catch weighing 37lb 14oz.

Rob nets top prize

THE midweek open match at Landsend Fishery produced mixed sport.

Rob Wooten, of Sarfix SW, won with an all-carp catch weighing 78lb 8oz, taken on pole-fished sweetcorn.

Stoke St. Michael veteran Terry Bruton again made the frame in second spot with a mixed catch of carp and skimmers weighing 44lb 7oz, taken on pole fished sweetcorn. He was followed by Nigel Collier, of Sarfix SW, with a mixed catch weighing 41lb 8oz. Top silver catch, weighing 32lb, was taken by Gary Wall, of Landsend.

Etheridge is star performer

THE Wednesday open match at Ivy House Fishery again produced good sport, with star Devizes matchman Gary Etheridge again in supreme form.

Etheridge gained a comfortable win with an al- carp catch weighing 65lb 10oz, taken on waggler-fished sweetcorn. Elick Payne, of Calne, was second with a mixed catch of carp and silvers weighing 23lb, taken on pole -fished casters. He was followed by Dave Young, of Ivy House, with a mixed bag weighing 21lb 4oz, with Jo Warner clinching fourth prize with a mixed catch weighing 19lb 10oz.

Calne win inter-club match

WITH the river still in flood the inter-club event between Calne and Metal Box was switched to the Kennet and Avon Canal at Marlborough.

Calne took the team honours with a weight of 37lb 13oz to the 23lb 8oz of Metal Box.

Individual honours went to Brian Johnson, of Calne, with a mixed catch of roach and perch weighing 6lb 10oz, taken on pole-fished red maggots.

Richard Bailey, of Metal Box, was second with an all-roach catch weighing 4lb 15oz, taken on pole-fished red maggots. He was followed by Gareth Jackson, of Calne, with a mixed catch of roach and perch weighing 4lb 12oz, taken on pole-fished pinkies.

Other placings: 4 Nigel Hiscock, Calne, 4lb 10oz; 5 Dave Scoble, Calne, 3lb 10oz; 6 Simon Fear, Calne, 3lb 6oz.

Suttle finds winning formula

FISH were hard to tempt in the Airsprung match fished on Sunday on the Kennet and Avon canal at Bradford.

Tim Suttle won with a mixed catch of skimmers and roach weighing 5lb 10oz taken, on pole-fished pinkies. Mike Marsden, of Amesbury, kept up his good recent form by taking second prize with a mixed catch of roach and perch weighing 3lb 12oz 8dm, also taken on pole-fished pinkies.

Similar tactics gave third prize to Kevin Hanson, of Trowbridge, with a roach and perch catch weighing 2lb 12oz.

Other placings: 4 Wayne Henley, Trowbridge, 1lb 15oz; 5 Bill Turner, Trowbridge, and Roger Green, Trowbridge, 1lb.

Close finish to pairs match

WEIGHTS were close in the Wilts Angling open pairs match fished on Blue Circle Lake and the Kennet and Avon Canal at Seend.

Top spot at Blue Circle went to Scott Cousins, of Yeovil, with a carp and bream catch weighing 10lb 12oz, taken on feeder-fished red maggots.

Dave Baker, of Trowbridge, was second with a carp catch weighing 10lb 6oz, taken on pole-fished sweetcorn and pellets.

He was followed by Stuart White, of Chippenham, with a carp catch weighing 7lb, taken on legered sweetcorn.

Top catch on the canal went to Robert Randell, of Gillingham, with a skimmer catch weighing 10lb 3oz, taken on pole-fished fluorescent pinkies.

Steve Tucker, of Thatchers, was second with a skimmer catch weighing 9lb 5oz, taken on pole-fished casters and chopped worm. He was followed by John Garner, of Chippenham, with a skimmer catch boosted by a small pike for a weight of 7lb 8oz, taken on pole-fished worm and casters.

The pairs event went to Steve Tucker and Gary O'Shea, of Thatchers, with six points and weight of 16lb 1oz, with Rob Randell and Will Bonnie, of Gillingham, second with sixpoints and 15lb 11oz. Robin Guy, of Melksham, and Stuart White, of Chippenham, were third with 11 points.
