CUMBERWELL Park duo Laurie Canter and Steve Surry continued to enjoy contrasting fortunes on their travels today.

Canter, 26, playing his first full season on the European Tour after coming through the qualifying school finals last November, is in action at the Open De Espana at Valderrama – his first European Tour event since February.

But Canter, who carded a 10-over-par 81 yesterday, struggled again in his second round, recording six double-bogeys whilst dropping five more shots as he went round in a disappointing 89 to finish bottom of the leaderboard.

Elsewhere, Trowbridge’s Curry is through to the latter stages of the Zimbabwe Open.

The 34-year-old is tied-13th on the leaderboard at the Sunshine Tour event after shooting a par round of 72 at Royal Harare today to add to his three-under round of 69 on Thursday.

Surry birdied the third, fifth and sixth holes, as well as the 12th and 18th, but bogeys on the ninth, 11th and 13th, combined with a double bogey on the par-four 14th, ensured that the Wiltshire man was unable to chip away at his score.

Surry will be partnered by South African Colin Nel for tomorrow’s third round, teeing off at 9:14am UK time.
