THERE was no fairytale ending for Semington FC in the 49th final of the A M Print & Copy sponsored Knockout Cup.
Nathan King’s third division underdogs, who had already accounted for Premier division sides White Horse A, Melksham Cosmos and The Pack Horse on route to Chippenham Town’s Hardenhuish Park, suffered a 5-0 loss against top flight outfit Corsham CC Wildcats.
Adam Mitchell gave cup favourites Wildcats the lead and although Semington never really tested keeper Sam Thompson ,who was playing in a third successive final having won the last two with Corsham Centre Youth, they felt they had a strong first-half penalty appeal turned down.
Mitchell doubled the Wildcats advantage early in the second period and it wasn’t long before it was game over, Leigh Rogers making it 3-0.
Mitchell completed his hat-trick to give Wildcats a 4-0 lead and although it was feared the floodgates may have opened, they didn’t as Sam Jordan’s goal completed the scoring for a Wildcats side who will now concentrate all their efforts on retaining the Premier Division title.
Semington will hope to finish the season as runners-up to the Dursley Arms.
After the game Roxi Meaden, from the cup sponsors A M Print & Copy, presented winning captain Nigel Curtis with the Knockout Cup.
Mitchell was the player of the final.
