CAPTAIN Richard Bedbrook scored his maiden century for the county as Wiltshire established a big first innings lead in their Minor Counties championship match against Oxfordshire.

The former Devizes and Corsham all-rounder made 103 as Wiltshire reached 374 for seven in 90 overs - a first innings lead of 112 over the home side.

Bedbrook shared a fifth wicket partnership of 133 with vice-captain James Hibberd, who finished unbeaten on 78. Former Chippenham batsman James Vince made 87.

But Oxfordshire fought back well last night and resumed on the third and final day this morning on 203 for three in their second innings - a lead of 71.

Wiltshire didn't help their chances of claiming a first win of the season by dropping five catches and may find it difficult to bowl out the home side a second time on a benign batting surface at Challow and Childrey.

Their chances have been further reduced by an injury to slow left armer James Hayward, who was injured while fielding before lunch on the first day.

X-rays have confirmed Hayward has suffered a double break to his left thumb.

He will not field or bowl and will only bat in Wiltshire's second innings in an emergency.
