WESTBURY'S poor form continued as their total of 103 was chased down in just 17 overs by mid-table Thornbury.

Thornbury, who had Gloucestshire's Anthony Ireland in their line-up, won the toss and put Westbury into bat. Opening batsmen Richard Mills (5) and Alexander Hart (13) failed to make an impression as Westbury struggled to 19-2.

Ireland's class then showed as he took the wickets of Matthew Milton (15),Joe Breet (19) and Johan Fourie (13), and finished on figures of 3-14.

Westbury's tail end could only add a further 19 runs and ended on 103 allout. Westbury did make a good start with the ball though taking four early wickets, which left Thornbury on 54-4. But an impressive 54 not out off 28 balls from Simon Hinks secured victory for the home side as they finished on 109-4 and won by six wickets.

Westbury's Philip Carroll finished on figures of 3-25. Westbury captain Ben Whiting said: "It was a bit of a bad track and they had Gloucestershire's Anthony Ireland steaming in from one end, which made a difference.

"It was strange seeing him on TV one week and playing against him the next.

"We bowled quite well, with Philip Carroll taking three wickets, but when you've only got 103 on the board there's not a lot that you can do."

Westbury now have a double header against Lansdown, who are currently in the relegation zone one place below Westbury. Philip Carroll is unavailable for tomorrow's game but Westbury welcome back Jacques Prinsloo and Andy Carroll, who will bowl for the first time this season after recovering from a side strain.

Whiting added: "I'm always in a confident mood because on paper we have a great side but we're in the habit of losing at the moment and that's something we need to get out of and soon."
