Chippenham Golf Club were hoping to find the next Tiger Woods after they provided free coaching sessions to beginners at the weekend.

The initiative, which is provided by the English Golf Union and the English Women's Golf Association, is designed to get people into golf regardless of their age, gender or background.

Chippenham Golf Club professionals Bill Creamer and Alex Douglas were teaching the hopefuls on both Saturday and Sunday.

Creamer said: "On the Saturday morning we had a family group with mums, dads and their children."The youngest participant of the weekend was a five-year-old boy who was absolutely brilliant. He loved every minute of it. The oldest golfer was about 70.

"It's hard to tell if we have any promising talent at this early stage because they are all complete beginners, so this programme was just about giving them a flavour and an opportunity. We worked on putting, the early stages of the swing, grip and chipping. We've already had three or four comeback already for extra lessons so that's great."
