Ten-man Chippenham Town were hit with a late sucker punch as they conceded two goals in the final three minutes to draw 3-3 against Taunton Town.

The Bluebirds raced into an early lead as inside 20 minutes Nathaniel Williams struck, and Owen Windsor saw his effort deflected into the net off Ollie Chamberlain.

But the game flipped on its head after Freddie Grant was booked twice in quick succession for wasting time over a throw-in and a rough challenge on Chamberlain.

This revived the Peacocks and Nat Jarvis reduced the deficit shortly after the break before Luke Spokes looked to have won the game with a spectacular effort 15 minutes from time.

But Ross Stearn scored a second after 87 minutes before Chamberlain turned home in stoppage time to mean the points were shared.

Gary Horgan said to BBC Wiltshire: “For the first 25 minutes it was really good, we were very calm and I was very pleased.

“We were expecting to go on and win the game comfortably at 2-0, our patterns of play coming out from the back were working really well and Taunton struggled with it.

“Especially going up the hill, we thought we would go on to score three or four, but the sending off changed the game.

“That made the game a bit more frantic for the other 65 minutes.

“We absolutely win the game with 11 men, even with ten men we were the better side, but they started chucking the ball into the box and we couldn’t affect some of the deeper crosses.

“Even with ten we kept the ball really well, kept it moving, and I thought we would go and win the game just by keeping possession.

“In the end it was probably just sheer volume of balls into the box that undid us.”

Elsewhere, Royal Wotton Bassett Town had a humbling evening against table toppers Corsham Town as they lost 7-1 at Southbank.

Bassett entered the game third in the table, but Kane Simpson and Dan Price both struck inside ten minutes, before matters became even worse as Bailey Gallagher was dismissed for a rash challenge on the half hour mark.

Simpson completed his hat-trick with goals either side of the break before Matt Jones netted a consolation for the visitors.

Corsham added gloss to the rout late on, with Price getting his second, before Ryan Bath and Henry Sady made it seven for the Quarrymen.
