New Milton Keynes Dons manager Mike Williamson has said that he will be having discussions about the future of Dan Kemp in the next few weeks.

The 24-year-old has been one of League Two’s best players this season whilst on loan at Swindon Town from MK Dons, scoring eight goals and setting up five more.

Kemp last played a league game for his parent club against Accrington Stanley in August 2022 and has had two loan stints in League Two during 2023, first impressing for Hartlepool United before joining Swindon on a temporary basis in the summer.

MK Dons switched managers from Graham Alexander to Mike Williamson last week and the new incumbent at Stadium MK has expressed his desire to discuss the situation with his midfielder.

Speaking to the MK Citizen, Williamson said: “I saw the impact he had in Hartlepool last season, going into a team that was struggling and helped turn them around. He's doing exactly the same at Swindon now.

“I'll be keen to touch base with him at some point, we'll get this game out of the way first, but I'm looking forward to having a chat with him.”

With Kemp and Jake Young both impressing on loan from fellow League Two clubs, Michael Flynn has previously spoken about the potential for the pair to be recalled in January.

Flynn even confirmed that he had attempted to bring in Kemp on a permanent basis over the summer but was unable to come to an agreement.

Speaking in August, Flynn said: “I can’t give any assurances to the fans because it’s out of our hands. We did what we could to get the players in [permanently] in the first instance.

“They are both on season-long loans. There is a small break clause in both, but it is only a small one.

“Now, unless they’re going to go back and play at their clubs or somebody puts in a ridiculous offer for one of them that the other club can’t turn down, I’d like to think – in good faith – that they’ll be here for the duration of the season.

“We’ve tried to sign Dan Kemp on a permanent basis, but Milton Keynes Dons hold the cards there.

“I really don’t know [how likely it is Kemp and Young sign permanently]. It’s going to be a bit more difficult with Jake, especially if he keeps scoring like this.”
