Michael Flynn said it felt like Swindon Town got a “monkey off their back” by picking up their first win on the road since August against Accrington Stanley.

After winning their first away game of the season in dramatic fashion 2-1 against Forest Green Rovers, Town went 105 days and nine games without picking up a win away from home.

Getting that first three points since August took similar hard work as Swindon almost threw away a four-goal lead after the 91st minute, requiring a Frazer Blake-Tracy goal-line clearance to prevent Stanley from snatching a point.

Flynn said that although he wouldn’t have chosen the fashion of his side’s victory at the Wham Stadium, but he was pleased to have finally gotten a second away win to round off a good ten days for Town.

He said: “[An away win] has been elusive, we should have won plenty more away games, we have thrown them away and tonight we have tried to do that again.

“It is good [to finally get the win], the monkey is off the back again now with another away win.

“It has been a positive week, seven points in a week with two long away journeys and playing an unbeaten team at home, so I am pleased.

“If you had offered me 4-3 before the game then I would have taken it, it is just the manner of how it happened and how we looked so fragile in the last seven minutes.

“I will take some of the blame for the substitutions because the game is never over until the whistle has blown, but you didn’t see that coming.”

Tuesday night also saw Saidou Khan net his first goal of the season with a howitzer from 25 yards out to send Swindon 3-0 up during the second half.

Flynn said that it was a piece of advice that he had given his midfielder which helped him to get off the mark for the campaign.

He said: “What a way to open your account for the season because it was an unbelievable strike.

“I have been telling him to use his left foot more, so I am going to take some of the credit for that.

“It is a great strike from Saidou, and I have been encouraging him to do it, he would usually put it over the stand, so I am very pleased for him.”
