Swindon Town’s Saturday opponents Colchester United have appointed Danny Cowley as the club’s new head coach.

The U’s have appointed their third manager of the season having already dismissed former Swindon boss Ben Garner and Matty Etherington already this season, as Danny Cowley takes charge alongside his brother Nicky Cowley at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Colchester visit the County Ground this weekend having lost eight of their last nine games in League Two, proving to be enough to bring an end to Etherington’s time in the dug-out.

But the U’s have a strong record against Town, with Swindon having beaten them just once in their last nine meetings.

The Cowleys arrive having previously guided Lincoln City to promotion from League Two, finishing top of the table in 2019/19, and have since managed at Huddersfield Town and Portsmouth, but have been out of work since departing Fratton Park in January last year.

When Colchester arrive in Wiltshire this Saturday, it will be the sixth time this season that Swindon have faced a team shortly after a managerial change and they have not had a huge amount of success in those match-ups, winning just once.

Town took on Bradford City with caretaker boss Kevin McDonald in charge, Mike Williamson managed his third game in charge at Milton Keynes Dons against Swindon, caretaker manager Keith Millen was in the dug-out for Gillingham’s game against Town, the reverse fixture of this game took place shortly after Garner’s dismissal, and Troy Deeney joined Forest Green Rovers nine days before their visit to the County Ground.

Prior to facing Gillingham in October, Flynn said: “We are going to have enough practice on it [facing a new manager], I think it will be four in the last couple of weeks by the time we play Colchester [away].”
