Michael Flynn revealed that Swindon Town have a player undergoing a medical with the club today ahead of potentially joining.

This week has seen Swindon’s top goal scorer and top assister depart after being recalled from their loans by their parent clubs but it seems Town might be on the verge of their first signing of the January window.

During the press conference ahead of this weekend's game with Colchester United and their new head coach Danny Cowley, when asked about potential new signings, Flynn revealed that he had a player on the verge of joining his squad in the building on Friday.

He said: “On the new arrivals, we have got one in today for a medical which we have been working hard on.

“[I can’t say about them] I don’t want to jinx it and I will let the club inform you as soon as everything is a-okay.

“All I can tell you is that there is a medical booked for today.

“Jamie [Russell] and I have been working extremely hard and we have been for months, I will be honest, in trying to get the right players in.

“Of course, things have been up in the air with Jake [Young] and Murphy [Mahoney] was an unexpected one and Daniel [Kemp] as well.

“That was also out of our control because we would have kept all three if we had been able to.”

Swindon have been linked with a few players early in this window, like Eddie Ince from Brisbane Roar, but are yet to have made an addition and are set to face Colchester United with a severely depleted side due to injuries and outgoings.

Flynn revealed that he was “likely” to have Tom Brewitt back in time to feature after he pulled up in the warm-ups at Crawley Town, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy “could have some involvement” but may not be ready in time, and Tom Clayton “has had a setback” and the club were waiting for further news on it.

That could be about to change as Flynn also said that he has another player lined up to have a medical with the club next week.

He said: “I was hoping that one [signing] would be done but there has been a little bit of a setback.

“That medical will probably be in the early part of next week now, that was completely out of our control.”
