Swindon Town have announced the permanent signing of German youth international and Liverpool striker Paul Glatzel, subject to EFL approval.

The 22-year-old joined the Liverpool academy at the under-nine level and has been with them ever since, even finishing as the FA Youth Cup top goal scorer in 2018/19 as Liverpool were crowned champions.

The striker lifted the FA Youth Cup alongside fellow Swindon man Jake Cain and also played with Tom Clayton for the Liverpool Under-21s.

Glatzel has spent two different loan spells with Tranmere Rovers during the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, scoring four goals and registering three assists in 17 League Two appearances.

However, injuries hampered his time at Prenton Park with two separate hamstring injuries causing him to spend over a year on the sidelines during his two spells in Birkenhead.

The striker was born in Liverpool to German parents and has represented both England and Germany internationally at youth level.

The former Tranmere man played for England at under-15 and under-16 level before switching allegiance and netting his first goal at the international level for Die Mannschaft in the under-18s against Belgium.

Glatzel will become the second German player, after Steven Benda, to play for Town.
