Jack Bycroft said that he felt a little bit nervous ahead of making his Swindon Town debut during their 2-1 defeat against Crewe Alexandra.

The goalkeeper came straight in to start for the club he grew up supporting but couldn't change their fortunes as goals from Elliott Nevitt and Courtney Baker-Richardson on either side of Charlie Austin's strike condemned Town to a fourth straight away defeat.

Bycroft said after the game that he does not normally get nervous before games but making his debut for his boyhood club had brought the nerves on a little bit.

He said: "I tried my hardest to be solid and to be honest with you, I don't usually get nervous but in that first ten minutes I was nervous.

"Warming up, the day before, and last night I was cool but then stepping out and seeing the fans and wearing the Swindon badge meant a lot to me.

"After that, I thought that I got into a good rhythm.

"The goals were scrappy and unfortunate but on another day we might block them or they might hit me.

"It was my debut in the Football League and my debut for Swindon Town, two things that if you had told me when I was eight, nine, or ten sat in the County Ground then I probably wouldn't have believed you.

"Hopefully now we can just keep pushing on and keep climbing that league and see where that takes us."

Bycroft also said that making his debut with a group of players that he had met for the first time the day before was an additional challenge for his first game in the EFL.

He said: "Obviously it is difficult, like anyone going into a new job, it is the same sort of thing where you sit in an office and you don't know any names.

"The boys have welcomed me in and helped me out massively, they tried to guide me today and I tried to talk to them as much as I could.

"[Lewis] Ward is a top boy as well and he has helped me massively today and I really appreciate that.

"Overall I think we deserved something out of the game.

"If we get a good, solid week together now then we can gel together as a team and I can get to know some of the boys better then I am sure we will be fine."
