Swindon Town owner Clem Morfuni said that the departure of Michael Flynn will not disrupt the club’s transfer activity during January.

Flynn had been at the centre of Town’s planning for the window and spoke about how he was working around the clock to bring in the new faces he was looking for to help revitalise his squad, prior to his dismissal on Monday.

However, Morfuni said that he didn’t think that getting rid of his manager in the middle of January would have any impact on what Town could get done in the window.

He said: “I think it [the transfer window] is going quite well, there are a couple more players that we are going to sign today [Pharrell Johnson and Conor McCarthy], so I think it is going quite well.

“We are working hard behind the scenes, and we have got a couple of players coming back from injury, which helps.

“I am putting my faith into Jamie Russell and Gavin [Gunning] to run the football side and I am just supporting them financially.

“It isn’t for me to say what I think, I am really getting Jamie to control the football side and he is very knowledgeable on football.

“[Does Flynn’s departure impact the window?] Not really. We have got Les [Caffery] and we have got Jamie and Gav and they had all of the players.

“We have got a list, and it was the same one that Jamie had, so there was no issue there.”

With Flynn departing, Gunning has stepped up from his role as development phase loan manager and has been placed in interim charge until the end of the season and Morfuni had this to say when asked about why he has so much faith in him.

He said: “His knowledge about football, he knows the level, and he has got a good rapport with the players, which is really good.

“We had a breakfast with the team, Gav, and Jamie, so they have got a good rapport.

“He does a great job on coaching and stuff like that, so we had to change it up because we were 15th and we couldn’t accept that.

“If he needs any more support then we are talking to him and we are monitoring it, so we just have to make sure that we back him and we need the supporters to back him and the team.”
