Paul Glatzel said that he was looking to get his career back on track at Swindon Town after suffering significant injury setbacks.

The 22-year-old joined Town on a permanent deal from Liverpool this month having previously turned out for Tranmere Rovers at this level.

The German youth international missed a combined 54 games across two seasons in Birkenhead with two separate hamstring injuries, hampering his progress having previously been considered one of the most promising players in the Liverpool academy set-up.

Glatzel said that he was hoping that his move to Swindon would help him to start realising the potential that he has shown at youth level.

He said: “My injuries have stopped my progression as I would have liked, and I believe that my path would have been different without them.

“There are a lot of boys who I have grown up with and played with and their career paths have been a little bit different to mine, hopefully, I will get there one day too.

“I have not lost faith in my ability; I believe that I am capable of playing as high as I can.

“I have experience in this league before and I think I did quite well, so hopefully I can hit the ground running.

“I just need to make sure that I come here and play as many games as I can and then try and contribute and perform because that is all I can do.

“I am looking forward to getting back to playing football regularly and I am hoping that this is the place where I can do that.”

The striker said that there had been times when he had doubted his future during his injuries, but he remained strong and feels ready to kick on after making the move to Wiltshire.

He said: “My love for football and the game itself has kept me going. I have had some tough times and everyone knows that.

“But with every setback, I have tried to focus on getting back on the pitch because that is what I want to do.

“I believe in myself; I believe in my ability and now I can put that all behind me and look forward.

“I feel good, I have been playing in the first half of the season at Liverpool and I had a good pre-season which helped me massively.

“I feel good, I feel strong, and I feel fit.”
