Gavin Gunning said that his side's display was just the start of what they will be able to do following Swindon Town's 2-0 win over Bradford City.

Charlie Austin's emphatic early penalty got Swindon off to a dream start as they looked rejuvenated with the 33-year-old in interim charge.

Dawson Devoy then turned home his first goal in English league football right at the end of the half to help Swindon to their first win of the new year.

Gunning was very pleased with the application of his players to deny the Bantams the opportunity to execute their game plan.

He said: “It was one of those games when neither side is ever going to have a lot of possession because they [Bradford] are very route one.

“It is always going to be about the second balls and you are never going to dominate because they will get bodies around the ball and it is manic.

“It is not great to watch but the boys did so well to deal with that and then go and show their quality.

"As a coach, you can get too involved in the game and watch it like a fan and you miss what is actually going on but I managed to avoid that today

“From one to 11 it was fantastic application, actually all 18 of them really, the subs that came on knew their jobs fantastically well and knew their jobs.

“Nobody sulked and that made me very happy, but this was just the start.”

Gunning was full of praise for his new-look defensive pairing in Conor McCarthy and Frazer Blake-Tracy and how they dealt with the Bradford strikers.

He said: "They were a lot better than alright, to be honest, that was a proper elite League Two centre-half partnership performance.

"There was composure from Frazer playing it around and Conor was dominant playing against one of the best strikers in the league and then another one comes on and he dominates him as well.

"Their communication was fantastic and they were just ferocious."

Gunning was practically beaming with Paul Glatzel's performance as despite not finding the back of the net, the striker had a big hand in both goals.

He said: "Glatzel was just... that's a talent that boy. Sharp? Check.

"He gets in and is about to score his goal and I don't know how you can't give that. The defender is on the wrong side and it is impossible for him to get the ball and if there is any contact then it is a penalty.

"[For Devoy's goal] He just chopped the lad, it was fantastic.

"He has been unfortunate with injuries in his career but he has looked after himself and touch wood he keeps himself fit.

"That quality to just chop the defender and give it to Dawson, who had busted a gut from midfield and then shows great composure.

"Some good signings, eh? I am not hopeful, I am sure of it."
