Gavin Gunning was frustrated by Swindon Town's missed chances as they were made to settle for a 2-2 draw with Gillingham.

Sean McGurk got his rewards for a fine display in the first half as he weaved through Gillingham and fired home from the edge of the area.

Then, once again, Swindon sacrificed a lead as first Oli Hawkins headed home and then Connor Mahoney fired home a penalty as Gillingham seemed to have won it.

But four minutes into stoppage time, Harry McKirdy came in off the wing and drilled a shot across the goalkeeper to see both teams walk away with a point.

Gunning said that Swindon are playing some top-level football right now, but their inability to capitalise on good chances was a huge frustration.

He said: "I never get too high and I never get too low, I think that is something that I have learned as I have gone along.

"When the Glatzel shots don't get in and instead get cleared and you could lose the plot there.

"That is just the way it is going at the minute, I think we are having really good performances in large spells of every game, I think we dominated.

"But they had their moments as well and they did what they do well, but they didn't have answer for us for large spells.

"It was just that when they got on top of us, they punished us and I think that the goals were very avoidable looking back at them and that is the frustrating part.

"All in all I am frustrated with the draw, I will take it in the end with a 90 plus four goal, but it is a frustrating one when we are missing a lot of chances.

"When you are in charge of a game and you are dominating like that and you are missing chance after chance, players get sloppy and they take too many touches, it turns over and then they strike and punish you.

"I think we must be playing some of the best football in the league right now, so I am very happy with that part."

McGurk netted his first senior goal in his first senior start after he drove through midfield, wriggled away from a defender before dispatching his shot into the top corner, and Gunning said that he was very pleased for the youngster to have performed so well.

He said: "I am just showing the confidence in him, he has got the talent.

"Leeds obviously rated him highly, he is a confident kid with proper ability.

"I am sure he will be a bit sore in the morning, but I was really proud of him because that performance was fantastic.

"[His goal was] beautiful, fantastic.

"[On bringing him back into the squad] I am just showing confidence in them, it is a good environment that the boys are creating at the minute, I think the lads are all happy."
