Gavin Gunning said that Saturday’s opponents MK Dons have ‘fantastic players’ who are as good as Dan Kemp ahead of his County Ground return.

Attacking midfielder Kemp will play at SN1 for the first time since his recall last month, but the Swindon head coach believes that his role will be different playing for the Buckinghamshire side.

He said: “He just partakes in a role in their team, it was different when he was here, he was the main man, he had freedom to play and do his own thing.

“But there it’s more strategic and it’s very well coached, proper possession-based, dominate the ball, make the pitch big when they’ve got it, close the space when they haven’t.

“I’ve been really impressed from what I’ve seen in them, but Kemp is a great fantastic player for this level but he’s just one in a club there.”

The former West Ham player was recalled after Swindon’s 3-1 loss to Crawley on New Year's Day, where he scored a consolation goal in the 90th minute.

Since his return to his parent club, he has netted one goal where he opened the scoring against their fierce rivals AFC Wimbledon in a 3-1 win.

Gunning continued to praise MK Dons and believes their good squad is the reason that Kemp may not have more license and freedom.

“I think they’ve got a lot of players that are just as good as him, that’s the problem.

“They’ve got some fantastic players and you think with the type of team they have; they should be top three maybe top four and they will probably end up there so it’s going to be a good test – I’m looking forward to it.”

“They have one of the best teams in the league for sure. Considering Dawson (Devoy) has now turned into one of our best players and couldn’t even get into their squad just shows where they’re at.”

The former Dundee United defender then hinted at how his Robins side were going to play on Saturday.

“We’re at home so we’re going to try and get right after them and I think they’ll know that coming here having watched us.

“We’re not going to be that team that’s sitting off and we’re gonna get after them and we’ll see which game plan works out.”
