Gavin Gunning said that few teams in League Two have had as good performance levels as Swindon Town over the last few games.

Town have gone winless in their last four matches, although they have outshot their opponents 67 to 52 over that period and earning an expected goals total of 5.56 in that time.

Gunning said that although the results have not been there for his team so far, few teams could claim to have put in better performances during his time in charge.

He said: “I think our level of performance has been as good as anyone in the last four games, other than MK Dons as that wasn’t amazing.

“But in the four games before I don’t think anyone was performing like us, I have seen on all the stats, all of the xGs we were top every game for every game that had been played in League Two in those weeks.

“It is frustrating, but we are getting there. I think they [the players] can see what we are trying to do in training.

“If there was no game plan and no specifics of where we are trying to get to, you would see the players’ reactions on the pitch, it would be slumped shoulders, no one trying, and no one going until the end.

“Fans are different because they don’t quite see the picture at times, but for someone in football, it is a bit different with your awareness of what is going on in the game.

“Performances have been key for going forward and our style has been there for everyone to see.”

Gunning added that after getting that first win against Bradford City, it has been frustrating that Swindon have been unable to turn those performances into momentum.

He said: “[After Bradford] it kind of killed us with the Newport game and battering them and getting stung by two balls over the top and they score.

“Then the Salford game was madness, I have never been involved in a game quite like it.

"So, you don’t win there then you go to Gillingham and they could have had three, we could have had eight and that was the game in a nutshell.

“It has been frustrating and then against MK Dons we didn’t perform to our best.

“Even your Stockports have had a few bad results and everyone has said they have fallen off, even them they get on at them a bit.”
