Gavin Gunning said he could only feel pride for his team after they picked up a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at Stockport County.

Swindon picked up their first clean sheet on the road since another 0-0 draw at Doncaster Rovers on September 2.

There were big chances at both ends, with Zac Elbouzedi hitting the post in the first half with the goal gaping, but also several fine saves from Jack Bycroft to keep them level.

Gunning said that he felt his side could even have taken more from the game with some of the chances they created over the course of the 90 minutes.

He said: "It was a great performance where we were solid behind the ball and transitioned well, a couple of times we made the wrong decision and a couple of times we didn't have the composure in front of goal.

"Instead of one, it could have been three but coming to Stockport and getting a clean sheet is fantastic for the team.

"We tried to condense the space, they are a good side, them and the team we played last week are two of the best squads in the league, so we knew it was going to be a tough game but I am very proud of the lads.

"We have had two clean sheets since I have come in, there were some not great goals in there too, but when you come to the league leaders and you get a clean sheet you can only be proud of the lads.

"It was brilliant, I am so proud of the lads, when you come here you know what is going to happen, but I thought on the balance of clear-cut chances we might have edged it.

"[Aaron] Drinan's isn't a clear-cut chance, but it is a joke of a save, and Zac misses an open goal, which is unfortunate because he hits the post and the angle wasn't great on it.

"[Jake] Cain has one where he should chop him instead, it was just that extra little bit of composure."

On the path to the clean sheet, Swindon still needed plenty of help from their goalkeeper and Gunning was brimming with praise for Bycroft and what he can achieve in the game.

The boyhood fan made eight saves, seven of which were denying shots inside the box, as his intervention proved crucial to Swindon earning their second clean sheet since Gunning took charge last month.

He said: "He is going to be a goalkeeper that will go through the levels of English football, I am sure of it.

"He has got a very high ceiling of where he can go, he is fantastic athletically and on the ball he is brilliant.

"Last week he should have come for it, he doesn't and he learns from it.

"He is a young goalie and he is going to have more mistakes in him but he will learn from them too and he will go well in football."
