Swindon Town defender Pharrell Johnson will be out for the season due to an injury that he picked up at Nottingham Forest.

Johnson joined Swindon in January as they took over his Forest contract and made his debut off the bench during the 2-0 win over Bradford City in January, although he has not played since and has only been on the bench once against Salford City.

Interim head coach Gavin Gunning has previously said that an injury had been keeping him out of the matchday squads, admitting before the trip to Stockport County that he was on the “injured list”, but he had “no more information on that.”

However, ahead of Swindon facing Harrogate Town on Saturday, Gunning confirmed that Johnson would be able to play no further part this season due to his injury.

He said: “Pharrell is out for the season. I think it was an injury he might have had a while ago and he didn’t think anything of it.

“But then, unfortunately, he is going to be out for the season.

“He did quite well in the game he came on in and then he has been carrying this niggle, but that is football, isn’t it?

“Injuries are part of it, how do you deal with that with the time off? Do you better yourself? It is up to him.”

In other injury news, George McEachran, who missed out on being part of the squad against Tranmere Rovers after going off injured against Stockport County, will be back involved against the Sulphurites.

McEachran has come back into favour under Gunning, starting four of his seven games in charge having been on the bench during the last six games of Michael Flynn’s reign.

Gunning explained that he chose to omit McEachran from his squad on Tuesday to try and reduce his fatigue after returning to the side in recent weeks and hand an opportunity to Ricky Aguiar.

Aguiar was given his first League Two start since Swindon’s visit to Bradford City in October 2022 and the head coach was pleased with his performance.

Gunning said: “George will be back in the squad. He has played a lot of minutes considering he was not around the team for a long time.

“I just thought it would be good to mix it up with the pitches being so heavy and I thought Ricky [Aguiar] came in and did fantastically well, so that was that decision.”
