There were mixed fortunes for three Wiltshire boxers backed by former IBF and IBO light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton.
Trowbridge's Nick Blackwell, Melksham's Liam Richards and Gareth Heard of Bradford on Avon had their fights screened on “The Hitman” Hatton's website, with the fights taking place at Trowbridge Civic Hall on Friday night.
There was disappointment for 19 year-old middleweight Blackwell, whose fight with experienced pro Darren Gethin was cancelled when it was discovered that the 33 year-old had an eye problem.
The cancellation meant that 22 year-old Richards' fight with Darren's brother Steve Gethin became the night's main event, with the Melksham fighter boxing eight rounds for the first time in his career.
The super-featherweight won on points against an opponent who has faced the likes of Amir Khan and says that he could have gone on.
It wasn't such a good night for 26 year-old Heard who was beaten on points by pro debutant Liam Power.
All three fighters are trained at the Contender Gym on Church Street in Trowbridge.
