DIVISION ONE

Trowbridge Wanderers 5 Steeple Ashton FC 2

WANDERERS hosted Steeple Ashton with both teams level on points.

The home side came straight out the blocks and played some great football from the off.

It wasn’t long before they took the lead, a bouncing ball catching the defence off balance as Sam Dawson tapped in at the back post.

The heavens had opened before the kick off and with The Mercer brothers up top so did the Ashton defence, Adam Mercer laid the ball square to Dan, who in turn delicately laid off a back heel into the path of his younger brother who rifled his shot into the bottom corner.

The Wanderers defence was firm and solid and Ross Pike had the better of his striking foe Guy Rowley.

Chris Brady picked out the headers from the back.

Mark Reynolds burst onto the scene to make it 3-0 at half time.

Sam Dawson had a chance to make it 4-0 but an embarrassing miss saw him sky-rocket his shot.

Sam Wersfold also had a late chance in the half, only to turn the shot inches wide.

Steeple Ashton came out the stronger team after the interval and it wasn’t long before Nathan Holloway made a steaming run from defence as he caught the Wanderers rearguard asleep to slot home their first of the game.

Wanderers bounced back and got back in the hunt soon after.

Adam Mercer, who was pulling strings in the defence, had a few more chances but this time it was Dan Mercer, who slotted home his shot to make it 4-1. Jack Holdway saw a fizzing shot warm the palms of the Steeple keeper and Dan Mercer put wide when one on one.

Ashton saw the majority of their attacks bombed out before they even started.

Jamie Moth and Chris Penelhum soon came on up top for the hosts and it wasn’t long before they made a quick impact.

A quick throw from Penelhum set Holdway free for his cross to find Dan Mercer for his second of the game.

But Ashton were not finished as Rueben Spong capitalised on a brief mistake from Chris Brady and smashed home a good goal.

Bromham 2 Bradford United 5

THE fixture computer paired the bottom two sides together and it was Bradford who left the happier.

Bromham started the better and opened the scoring through Dan Powell, before Bradford equalised. Bromham then scored again through Alistair Bradley to go in at half time 2-1 to the good.

The second half saw Bradford dominate and score four unanswered goals to seal the win.

Seend United 5 Lavington 1

SEEND United remain top of the table after securing a victory at home to Lavington.

Lavington took the lead early on through Jamie Bayes, but by half time Seend were in front thanks to goals from Kai Miller and James Eatough.

The second half saw Seend step up a gear and score a further three through Eatough, Chris Townsend and Mike Hopkins.

Semington Magpies 3 Blue Circle 6

SEMINGTON slipped closer to the relegation zone after losing home to Blue Circle.

With both teams playing good attacking football goals were not long in coming and Semington opened their account through Robert Mitchell.

But a brace from Simon Dolbear and a strike from Pete Ayton gave Circle the lead at half time.

The second period saw the Magpies score through Kelvin Lockwood, only for their joy to be shortlived as Ayton restored Circle’s two-goal lead.

Lockwood pulled another back for the home side before Daryl Maxwell and Dean Osment completed the scoring.

The Deverills 3 Broughton FC 1

THE Deverills leapfrogged opponents Broughton FC in the table, Mikey Payne scored the only goal of the first half for The Deverills.

The second half saw them double their lead through Dan Hargreaves before Broughton pulled a goal back. With time then running out Aaron Stevens rounded off the scoring by getting The Deverills' third.

DIVISION TWO

Bratton 1 Seend United Reserves 3

SEEND United Reserves moved level on points with Bratton after securing this away win.

Bratton enjoyed the better of the open period and found themselves a goal to the good through Dan Cox.

But a Trevor Jones equaliser made sure it was 1-1 by the half-time whistle.

The second period saw a more adventurous Seend team and they took their chances with Dan Moore scoring twice to give them the win.

FC Chippenham Youth A 2 Calne Eagles 1

FC CHIPPENHAM Youth A claimed their first home win of the season against Calne Eagles in heavy wind and rain at Stanley Park.

Calne played into the wind in the first half and FC Chippenham took the lead after only nine minutes, when Kelvin Paige struck an unstoppable shot from distance right into the top corner of the net.

They could have extended their lead after 15 minutes, when Eagles keeper Andy Windsor saved Mick Austin’s shot and Matt Spear hit the post from the rebound. Despite being forced deep, Calne always looked dangerous on the counter with Shaun Jefferies and Phil Gay both missing good chances to equalise during the first half.

However, just before half-time Calne, who were already threadbare, were dealt a blow when pacy striker Phil Gay pulled his hamstring and had to go off.

With no other regular players on the bench, he was replaced by 57-year-old Ron Hopkins.

Despite this, Calne started the half in positive mood and forced numerous early corners, but they were left with a mountain to climb when a speculative long range effort from Tom Porter lobbed off the foot of Calne’s Kevin Hamersley, leaving his goalkeeper Andy Windsor stranded.

Calne pulled themselves back into the game, when another one of their veterans, 45-year old Nick Cawley, went clean through on goal and beat goalkeeper Mat Smith with a coolly-taken finish.

Moments later, Cawley had a good chance to equalise when he glanced his header just wide of the post.

Calne’s Stu Windsor also saw a rasping 30 yard shot clip the post.

FC Chippenham always looked dangerous on the break and both Mick Austin and Matt Spear missed opportunities to put the game beyond doubt. Spear also had a goal ruled offside.

FC Northbridge 3 Heytesbury 1

NORTHBRIDGE remain three points behind second place after securing a win against struggling Heytesbury.

The weather seemed to dominate this match and at half time the game was goalless.

The second half saw both teams determined to get the better of the weather and eventually the opening goal was scored by Northbridge’s Kai Leather.

Not to be outdone, Heytesbury scored one of their own to make it 1-1.

This served to wake up Northbridge and they regained the lead as Chase Johnson tapped in from close range.

By now Heytesbury were tiring rapidly and they conceded a third as Dave Bradbeer scored.

Westbury United A 11 The Stiffs 0

THE Stiffs made it eight defeats out of eight as they lost at Westbury United A.

By half time Westbury had built up a five-goal advantage, before going on to get another six in the second half.

An Alex Blake penalty completed the first-half scoring and two goals followed through Simon Reid and Jamie Winks.

Mere Town YDT 1 Trowbridge Wanderers Reserves 2

The Angel 3 Bratton Reserves 2

THE Angel continue to improve and climb up the table after seeing off Bratton Reserves by the odd goal in five.

Ryan Mead opened the scoring for the home side before Shane Rendall levelled for Bratton.

The second half saw both teams go in search of the winner and eventually it was Andrew Cousins who scored the all-important goal for The Angel.

The second half saw Frome start as they finished the first and they scored a third through Mark Taylor. United scored the last goal of the match through Josef Zapotolzny.

Worton & Cheverell 1 Fever FC 7
