ONLY three competitors caught fish at Sunday’s Wilts Angling Open at Leech Pool.

After the ice was broken Ian Stainer, from Bradford, took top prize with carp weighing 13lb.

Trowbridge’s Mick Gunning took 4lb 2oz of carp for second, followed by Pete Neate from Holt with small carp and skimmers weighing 3lb 4oz.

FISH were hard to tempt in the Lavington match after heavy overnight frost on the Kennet & Avon Canal at Forton.

Melksham veteran Jim Escott used all his skills to tempt 4lb 3oz of roach and perch to clinch top prize, followed by Melksham’s Bob Gould with roach weighing 3lb 4oz.

John Keates, of Hilperton, was third with roach and perch weighing 2lb 8oz.

Other placings: 4. Kevin Morris Devizes 2 lb 3 oz; 5. John Cooper Lavington 1 lb 14 oz; 6. Jock Laing Lavington 1 lb 9 oz.

WEIGHTS were still reasonable in the Calne Reg Humphries Memorial/Air Ambulance Open match at Hazeland on Sunday.

Bob Ryan of Melksham won with chub weighing 10lb 12oz, followed by Steve Simkins of Calne with chub and dace weighing 9lb 14oz.

Pete Mills from Devizes clinched third with 8lb 4oz of chub.

Other placings: 4. Shane Belcher Calne 8 lb 1 oz; 5. Brian Johnson Calne 6 lb 8 oz; 6. Richard Faithful Newbury 5 lb 6 oz.

COMPETITORS enjoyed mixed sport in the Commercial House Winter League match fished on the Kennet & Avon Canal from Darlington Wharf to Bathampton.

Veals took top spot in A Division with 25 points with Crown Road Electrical topping B Division with 21.

Individual honours went to Andy Ottaway, of Bathampton Avon Aquatics, with a mixed net of four pike to 10lb 9oz and perch to 3lb for a winning weight of 27lb 5oz.

WARMINSTER’s Ivan Oakley was third in the Silvers Only midweek Open at Viaduct Fishery, with skimmers weighing 13lb 11oz.
