CALNE TOWN co-boss Tommy Dryden saluted his side after they booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Les Phillips Cup on Saturday.

Calne are unbeaten in their last three games after a 1-0 win at home to the first division’s runaway leaders Wells City.

“Things are going the right way at Calne,” said Dryden.

“We’re in two cups and we won our last league game, which is a great position to be in. The lads are taking on board what we’re saying in training and playing well.

“We’re really happy with how things are going.”

Calne almost went behind early on but Dan King was on hand to head Mark Randall’s free-kick off the line. Centre-back Russell Lodge grabbed the game’s only goal midway through the first period, rising highest to head home from a corner.

Wells pushed for an equaliser and put pressure on Calne for the rest of the game but Dryden’s men held on for the win.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game but we deserved the win,” said the Calne joint-manager.

“We defended from the front and everybody played their part. In the cup competitions, anyone can go on to win it and form goes out of the window.”

The Lilywhites turn their attentions back to their league campaign and travel to Sherborne United tomorrow.

Dryden hopes to welcome back four players to the squad, including Craig Fisher, Danny Moxham and Steve Allison.
