MOONRAKER NETBALL LEAGUE: Premier Division - Westbury A 24, Trowbridge 36. WESTBURY took an early two goal lead, but Trowbridge hit back to lead 9 -7 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Trowbridge take off, making some quick swift passes. Westbury battled hard with goal defence Zoe Van-Helmond and wing defence Claire Hann working hard to get the ball down the court.
The strong Trowbridge defence made it difficult for Westbury shooters Betty Fellows and Rachel Simmonds and by half-time Trowbridge had a comfortable 17-9 lead.
Westbury made some tactical changes for the second half, but Trowbridge led 26-16 going into the final quarter.
Westbury continued to pull their way back into the game, with some good attacking play by centre Claire Hann and wing attack Barbara Nickles, and the Westbury defence continued to work hard.
But despite all the team's hard work Westbury just missed out on a point by staying within 10 goals of the winning score. Westbury's player-of-the-match was Claire Hann.
Calne A 37, Chippenham A 19
CHIPPENHAM A lost for the second time this season to the newly reformed Calne A in a well fought match.
With one regular shooter out through injury Karen Lyons stepped in to join Cheryl Oram. Centre court players Selina Porter, Joey Finnegan and Carina De-Arth continued to battle throughout the match but the pressure from defenders Shelley Meiklereid and Linda Bird was not enough to stem the accurate shooting from Calne A.
Division One
Fitzmaurice A 29, Westbury B 24
WESTBURY B knew they had a difficult task ahead as their captain and goal shooter was missing and their goal defence was injured.
Not surprisingly, Fitzmaurice started with great force and commanded an impressive lead over Westbury by the end of the first quarter, leaving the scoreline 8-2.
The shooting partnership of Linda Geddes and Cathy Gardner was beginning to strengthen allowing Westbury to stay in the game, but the already very slick shooting partnership of the Fitzmaurice team had done a lot of damage despite Westbury's defenders, Karen Smith and Jayne Gibson, gelling really well together considering it was a first-time partnership.
Westbury player-of-the-match was Kerry Nickels.
Third Division
Devizes D 23, BMT 18
BOTH teams made a bright start but excellent defending from goal defence Emily Rugg and goalkeeper Emily Francis put the BMT shooters under pressure.
By the third quarter both teams were getting tired but some quick passing and good interceptions gave Devizes the lead 18-14 going into the final quarter.
Some excellent play by Amy Langan, Bryony Hutchings and Charlotte Camp let Hannah Butcher and Emily Grange put up some fantastic shots.
In a well played game Devizes won 23-18.
