CORSHAM Print Senior Cup winners Pewsey Vale failed to add the Premier Division runners up spot to their successful season when they were beaten 4-2 by league champions New College, writes RAY BURROUGHS.

Vale were hit by a quick-fire hat trick from the home side's Josh Skeates in the first 15 minutes of the game.

And although they recovered to claw back two goals from Michael Martin and Tom Ritchie just on the break, College’s top marksman Levi Cox added a fourth to send his side in at the break with a two-goal advantage they held until the final whistle.

Westbury United made up for their disappointment in the cup final when they defeated Purton 1-0 to secure the runners up spot.

In a scrappy game, Westbury’s prolific scorer Mark Lanfear netted the all-important goal to give his side something to celebrate.

Westbury boss Phil Alford said: “We did a job. Obviously the lads were a bit down after their last-minute defeat by Pewsey in the final last week, but a good display against champions New College in midweek and victory here made sure it was a good end to the season for the side.”

Calne Town manager Steve Davies bowed out after six years at the helm, coming off the bench for the second half against Shrewton.

But he was unable to prevent his side losing 2-1 to the visitors.

David Goddard gave Shrewton a goal lead at the break with Chris Pitman equalising for the home side a minute into the second half.

However, on the hour, Graham Coombes regained the lead for the visitors but Calne should have rescued a point when they were awarded a penalty in the closing stages, Arran Hopkins stepped up to take the kick and blazed over the bar, Calne’s fifth penalty miss from the last six attempts.

Corsham and Wroughton shared the points, drawing 3-3 in a cracking game at Corsham.

Both sides were awarded a penalty in the last two minutes of the game.

Earlier, James Stone had given Corsham the lead only for the visitors to reply twice with a brace from Brad Stanners.

Stone struck again for the home side to level the scores and, after near-misses at both ends, Liam Griffin scored from the spot for the visitors and Justin Flowers did likewise for Calne, with the last kick of the game.

It was also the last game in charge for Wroughton boss Kevin Cook.

Marlborough Town finished bottom of the table with Devizes Town a place above.

Minety finished champions of Division One and Wilton Town did likewise in Division Two.
