DANNY Talbot will make his senior Great Britain debut at the Aviva International Indoor match in Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, tomorrow.

The 19-year-old sprinter from Hilperton admitted he was shocked to get the call from the GB selectors to run in the 200m at the match, against global stars from USA, Sweden, Germany and the Commonwealth Select.

“This has come totally out of the blue and I honestly couldn't believe it when I found out,” said Talbot, who studies Sports Performance at the University of Bath.

“I thought that Leon Baptiste was doing the 200m and then I received an email from UK Athletics asking if I was available. It is a brilliant way to start the year and it will be a great experience for me.”

With former World 100m champion and Olympic finalist Kim Collins in the field plus top American sprinter Ryan Bailey, who boasts a 9.88secs 100m personal best from 2010, the competition will represent a step up for Talbot, whose family home is in Lacock Gardens.

“I'm going to be racing against some big names and my friends have all been saying that they can’t believe that I'm racing against Kim Collins,’’ added Talbot. “This year I was just hoping to get in the U23 team for the European Championships and maybe look to the seniors next year but to get in now is just brilliant.”

Talbot’s coach Dan Cossins believes the occasion won’t intimidate the former St Augustine’s student.

“Danny has competed at the highest level as a junior with the World Juniors (in Canada) last year and while he is still only 19 it is time for him to give it a go,” said Cossins.

“Over the next few years he will have to prove he has the ability to compete at the highest level and I firmly believe he is capable of doing that.”

Talbot was due to fly to Glasgow today to link up with the British team, which includes World and European heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis, and will compete in front of the television cameras tomorrow afternoon.
