FROME Town boss Darren Perrin is hoping that his players now believe that they are capable of succeeding in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division after claiming victory in their first two games of the season.

On Wednesday night, the Robins followed up their opening day victory at Bedford Town by beating Swindon Supermarine at Badgers Hill but boss Perrin says that tension was high ahead of Frome’s first outing in the Southern League’s top flight.

“There was quite a lot of apprehension before we started and I think that a few of the players weren’t sure that they’d be able to cut it at this level,” said Perrin.

“Maybe they thought it was a step too far and maybe some of them still do but we’ve done well in our first two games.

“We were worthy winners at Bedford and against Swindon Supermarine, we didn’t play well in the first-half but improved and deserved to win again - the crowd and the atmosphere were also fantastic too.”

On Wednesday, visitors Supermarine were awarded a penalty midway through the first-half when Mitchell Bryant went down in the box but TJ Bohane’s spot-kick was saved by Darren Chitty.

Frome took the lead with a penalty of their own, with Josh Brigham converting from the spot after substitute Twaine Plummer was upended in the area.

Shaun Benison then set up Dean Evans to side-foot home for 2-0 late on.

On Saturday, Kyle Tooze got the decisive goal in the first-half to seal a 1-0 win at Bedford.

Perrin’s men host fellow league new-boys Arlesey Town this weekend but Luke Ballinger is a doubt with a hamstring injury while Darren White is the subject of seven-day approaches from Wincanton Town and an unnamed Southern League outfit.
