WARMINSTER Town chief Jason Guy declared himself pleased with his side’s opening day display last Saturday as they earned a point against Stockbridge.

During a closely-fought encounter, Micheal Reaney put the home side ahead at Weymouth Street but Guy’s men were caught cold as Gavin Burgess equalised for the visitors just seconds after the restart.

But the Warminster boss remained content with a point on the opening weekend of his side’s new Wessex League campaign.

“It was a pretty good performance and I was happy with some of the football we played in patches,” said the Weymouth Street chief.

“I think we got caught up celebrating going ahead and got caught napping straight after because it only took them 15 seconds to equalise but a draw was fair in the end.

“You never want to lose on the opening day and it’s important that we didn’t do that - it was sloppy in places but it might take us four or five matches to get to our best.

“We’ve just got to try and see if we can string a few results together now and that starts with trying to pick up three points this weekend.”

The Southampton-based University side held Pewsey Vale to a goalless draw last weekend.
