IN SHORT, I have to say that I absolutely did not see the England result against Wales in Cardiff coming at all.

The game gave everyone a lot more questions than answers but one thing is for sure - it's a good job that the World Cup isn't starting tomorrow.

The same problems seemed to be cropping up and that's the combinations in both the centre and the back row.

These problems seem to have been there for three or four weeks but not much has changed and there isn't really much to say that that's going to happen.

In all honesty there might well be a fundamental problem with the fitness because even though Wales were made to do all the tackling, they never looked tired and if you look at the top teams like New Zealand, they never stop working to win the ball back.

It doesn't matter how good a side you are, if you play fast balls then it's hard to defend and England were playing with a slow tempo and not looking dangerous – if they'd played all day, they still wouldn't have scored.

But the thing with England is that there's always a big performance in there somewhere and the big boys will be scared about taking them on in the knockout stages of big competitions.

Anything can happen at the World Cup and that's the beauty of sport – you never know what's going to happen.

Just like I never expected to see a game like that.
