WESTBURY moved into the last four of the Dorset & Wilts 1st XV Plate after a nervy victory over hosts East Dorset.

The Wiltshire side went into the quarter final in good form, but missing several players and the hosts made the better start.

Within three minutes they had crossed the Westbury line, courtesy of some sloppy defending, but the score at least woke Westbury from their slumbers.

On 12 minutes full-back, Sam McQueen slotted a penalty when the home defence were caught offside and, with Westbury now seeming to take charge, they cranked up the pressure.

Eventually, from a five metre scrum, number eight and man of the match Darren Fuller scooped up the ball and charged over the line to give his side the lead.

Confident Westbury resumed their attacks and fly-half Chris Vaughan’s high ball allowed Fijian centre Koro Sitiveni to touch down, McQueen adding the extras.

Westbury started the second half poorly and immediately gave away a soft penalty 8 - 15.

Building more pressure, East Dorset worked their way back into it and levelled with a converted try.

With the visitors looking jittery, wing Nigel Kershaw steadied the ship with a burst of speed that left everyone else standing for a fine try which McQueen converted.

But East Dorset ensured a tense finish with another score, but the conversion to send the game into extra time was missed.
