CORSHAM Town manager Trevor Rawlings said the decision to postpone Saturday’s Les Phillips Cup tie at Barnstaple was the right one.

The decision was taken by the Toolstation League early on Saturday morning as a result of Friday night’s fatal accident on the M5.

The bus to take players and fans to Barnstaple had been booked for 10am and the Corsham manager said: “We had heard reports of there being six-hour delays.

“If we had left at 10am, we may not have got to the match until 4pm.

“We would have been arriving back home in the early hours of Sunday, so the decision to postpone was the right one.”

The tie will now take place on November 26, with Corsham’s league game with Merthyr Town pushed back to March.

Corsham host Pewsey Vale – the side who knocked them out of the FA Vase in mid-September – in the Wiltshire Senior Cup on Saturday.

“I’m looking forward to righting that wrong this time round,” adding Rawlings.
