TROWBRIDGE Tornado Danny Talbot insists that he has no problems with the controversial sprint stars who look set to be added to his list of competitors for places at London 2012.

Eighteen-year-old Delano Williams, from the Turks and Caicos Islands, has been at the centre of the ‘Plastic Brits’ row after he was granted a British passport and stated his intention to trial for one of Great Britain’s Olympic 200m slots earlier this month.

Meanwhile former European 100m record-holder Dwain Chambers looks likely to have his lifetime Olympic ban from the British Olympic Association overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Chambers, who also served a two-year athletics ban after being found guilty of using anabolic steroids in 2003, would compete against Talbot for a place in the 4x100m relay squad. The Trowbridge star says that he doesn’t feel that Williams and Chambers’ Olympic eligibility is unfair.

“Delano’s country doesn’t have an Olympic committee and the only way he can race is for Great Britain,” said the 20-year-old, who trains with Corsham-based coach Dan Cossins at the University of Bath.

“I train with a guy called Scott Bejare, who’s half-Nigerian, and there are a lot of athletes who race for Great Britain who descend from other countries.

“At the end of the day, I don’t want to be the best in Great Britain, I want to be the best in the world, so I’d probably have to race against these people anyway, no matter what uniform they have on.

“With Dwain, it is a difficult one. In another job, if you were caught taking drugs, then you probably wouldn’t get your job back.

“But I’ve trained with him up in London before and I like him as a person.

“They’re both just two examples but it’s not as if they’re both just coming straight in to the Olympics. They’ve still got the same chance to qualify as everyone else.”

Talbot’s next big test is the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) championships, which begin next Friday.

The Trowbridge sprinter has opted not to take part in his favoured 200m event and will instead go looking to get the better of highly-rated Great Britain relay team-mate Harry Aikines-Aryeetey in the 100m.
