IT REALLY was a shame that our friendly against Corsham was rained off last weekend because we had a number of players that we were keen to have a look at.

There were a few young players who’ve featured for us in the indoor sessions but it would have great to see how they do outdoors.

It means that we’re going to have to let these players go back to their local clubs and try our best to keep an eye on how they get on.

Myself and Dale (Bowler, coach) will be keeping an eye on the scores online and that way, we’ll be able to see who’s been playing well and who’s in form.

I’m not likely to be playing myself for the first few weeks of the season so I’ll try and see if I can get out to watch some people.

I’ve also got a few contacts at local clubs who I can talk to if I want to find out how certain players have been getting on.

Unfortunately, it looks like our first MCCA Trophy game against Shropshire this weekend will also get rained off but we’ve got to prepare as if we’ve got a game.

We’re playing at Trowbridge and the only friendly we did play, which was against Berkshire, was there, so we know what to expect from the wicket.

It’s a tough game and Shropshire are a very good side in the one-day competition.

But we’ve selected a side to deal with the wicket and we’ll hopefully have a good chance if the game goes ahead.
