Things teed off nicely at Bradford on Avon's Cumberwell Park golf club after a Westbury woman raised over £2,500 from a charity golf day last Friday.

Linda Penney, 46 of Leigh Park, organised the British Heart Foundation fundraiser for a day of golf, a two-course meal and a charity auction from 9am-6pm.

Her lorry driver husband Andrew, 52, had a quadruple bypass heart surgery in November 2009 and ever since his recovery she has sought raise as much as she can for them.

"It went amazingly well. I was considering cancelling it last week as some teams dropped out but I am so glad I did not," said the 46-year-old who won the charity's volunteer of the year award for the Wiltshire and Berkshire area and has raised around £10,000 for them.

"BHF supported us through his heart bypass as they arranged for me to stay at Southampton Hospital's Heartbeat House and still give us support and comfort to this day.

Some of the items that were auctioned included signed memorabilia from golfers Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomery, Zac Johnson as well as a donated and signed shirt from Manchester United star Ander Herrera.

""I chose golf as my husband picked it up after his operation and it is a great fundraiser," said Mrs Penney, who is a stay-at-home mum and also has a five-year-old daughter called Emily.
