Last week I attended the House of Lords to listen to The Queen’s Speech. Widely watched primarily for the pageantry of the State Opening of Parliament, the Queen’s Speech is important in itself for outlining the Government’s programme for the next 12 months. Wherever else political debate may stray, the focus of the legislation we debate in Parliament will be on measures to build a stronger economy and a fairer society.
