A WILTSHIRE Council report may have stated that the county's roads are in better shape, but villagers in Limpley Stoke disagree.

Anne Jarrett, who lives in Lower Limpley Stoke, said that she has noticed a decline in road surfaces over the past 18 months.

She attempted to make a complaint via the council's Clarence road repairs form, but did not get a response.

Mrs Jarrett said: "There are a lot of perennial weeds along the paths and a lot of potholes in the road.

"I was shocked when I read the article about Wiltshire Council saying the roads were in a good condition. Limpley Stoke must be the only place that is like this if the report is right.”

The issues begin as you drive into the village from Freshford on Crowe Hill. The pavement is worn away and there are large potholes in the middle of the road.

“To my knowledge there haven’t been any repairs since the 1980s," said Mrs Jarrett.

"People have filled some of the holes but that is only a temporary fix. With all of the homes being built in Westbury, Trowbridge and Bradford it just means the road will become busier so it is really important that the roads are repaired,” she added.

A report into safety inspections in the Bradford on Avon area shows that all five callouts were related to potholes or issues with pavements and kerbs.

“We have had a couple of people come out to the village and have a look at the roads and pavements but nothing seems to be done about it. When you go to Freshford all of the roads are immaculate,” Mrs Jarrett added.

A Wiltshire Council spokesman said: “We successfully fix thousands of potholes each year and we have also increased funding into highways, investing in resurfacing programmes which lead to better maintenance and fewer potholes. However this a rolling programme of work which is ongoing and where there are road issues we’d encourage people to contact us using the My Wiltshire App and we will address these as quickly as possible.”
