Corsham people urged to report all boozy trouble

Residents are being urged to report alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour in Corsham.

The Town Council is appealing for volunteers to be contacted as part of a programme monitoring nuisance drinking, following summer incidents at the Springfield Recreation Ground and Meriton Avenue Recreation Ground.

Police have no powers to confiscate alcohol from those over the age of 18.

However, since the issue was raised at September’s town council meeting, Dave Martin has been investigating the introduction of a Desig-nated Public Places Order to ban drinking on the street.

To support the move, the council and police need to produce six months’ worth of reports including any anti-social behaviour relating to alcohol.

Mr Martin said: “What we are doing at the moment is putting forms together for people to record incidents as evidence.

“We will look at these every month and then see if a pattern is developing.

“Ideally, we’ll have no evidence, which will mean there are no problems.”

The council noted that there had been a reduction in littering and broken bottles being found since it declared the crackdown on nuisance drinking in September.
