THE bridge which will connect the two halves of the St Stephen’s Place complex in Trowbridge was put in place yesterday evening.

The installation of the 27 metre long bridge, which arrived on a truck from Barnsley, was delayed for several hours due to strong winds.

Finally, at around 7pm, a crane dropped the 1.5 metre wide bridge into place, to the delight of onlookers who had spent hours waiting for the occasion.

The bridge will act as a connector between the first stage of the £17 million complex and the second phase, which is currently under completion.

It will include a Marks & Spencer supermarket, a Toby Carvery restaurant, a Pizza Express restaurant and a Greggs bakery, which will move from its current location in The Shires.

James Robertson, 25, who works at The Odeon in the complex, said: “It’s a good day to be working here as we can keep an eye on the bridge being installed.

“It’s not every day you get to watch something like that happen as you work.”
